The ANC has once again won with a majority of ten seats in the Inxuba Yethemba Municipality, representing Cradock and Middelburg.<\/p>\n

The opposition consists of Democratic Alliance with seven representatives and, for the first time, a single council member will be representing the Patriotic Alliance.<\/p>\n

Noncedo Zonke was re-elected as mayor for the second term, while Mkululi Mbebe\u2019s term as acting municipal manager was extended.\u00a0 The new Speaker is Thembi Mbotya.<\/p>\n

In her inaugural speech Mayor Zonke said that the new council dared not fail the people of Cradock and Middelburg on the promises that were made during their campaigns.<\/p>\n

She assured the people of Cradock and Middelburg that the council members are aware of all the grievances that exist and that she promises that the grievances will be addressed.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will not be a plain sailing process and will require strong partnership with the community and organizations so that we can build a better community together,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Zonke also said that she was aware of all the complaints regarding water leaks, sanitation and sewer spillages and the incoming council will engage with Chris Hani District Council to finalize the transfer of water services to Inxuba Yethemba Municipality.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople complained about road infrastructure and the municipality has already embarked on a vigorous road maintenance program,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The Mayor also promised to address the shortage of houses with the Human Settlements Department and to cultivate mechanisms for jobs, education and training for young people.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn order to achieve all our aims requires finances and I have to stipulate that the residents of wards 1, 2 and 3 in Lingelihle will have to start paying for municipal services,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

In conclusion the Mayor urgently requested all residents of the area to observe strict Covid-19 protocols.<\/p>\n
