OFFICE OF THE SPEAKER
OFFICE OVERVIEW
The Speaker of Council is elected by Council and the responsibilities of the Speaker are provided in the Legislation, Municipal Structures Act 117 of 1998 in Section 37. It provides the support to the units in the office of the Speaker to enhance the role of the Speaker.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
- Presides Over Council Meetings
- Ensure compliance in the Council and Council Committee with code of conduct
- Must ensure that legislative authority of the municipality function effectively
ACTS THAT GOVERNS OFFICE OF THE SPEAKER
- Must ensure effectiveness and Functionality of ward Committees and Public participation process.
- Is responsible for the affective oversight over the executive authority of municipality
- Is responsible for the welfare of councillor.
